About BetelOur Beginnings & Locations
In 1985, eleven years before opening in Britain, Betel (Spanish for Bethel) received its first destitute men and women off the streets of Madrid. Since that time some 90,000 homeless, substance abusers and socially disadvantaged have been helped throughout Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, France, Asia, Mexico, USA, Russia, Greece, Bulgaria and the UK. Betel residences host more than 1,500 recovering men and women in 72 cities in 15 nations. For contact details on Betel’s dozens of centres worldwide see [Asociacion Betel - International Website]
Betel of Britain is a caring, not-for-profit Christian community in the heart of the UK dedicated to restoring homeless and substance-dependent people to productive, independent lifestyles. Our residences are drug- and alcohol-free, and all our support services are free of charge (See 'Admission Procedures' for more details). We offer at all times the opportunity of restoration to all persons who seek help. Betel opened its first British base outside Birmingham in 1996 at Windmill House, owned by the Bournville Village Trust. Additional residences followed, and we've now opened our second UK centre at Manna Farm, near Nottingham. Vision for UK Expansion
Homelessness and substance abuse continue to escalate in the UK. In keeping with our pattern of growth in Spain and other nations, Betel is committed to expanding into every major city in the UK and Ireland as properties and/or funding become available. “ART welcomes its partnership with Betel. We are delighted to extend the capacity of this ministry in Britain, which brings new hope to those most in need by helping them to help themselves.” —Sir Adrian Cadbury, Chairman, Aston Reinvestment Trust |
